LIGHT FOR THE WORLD - Christoffel Development Cooperation

LIGHT FOR THE WORLD - Christoffel Development Cooperation is an Austrian, non-governmental development organisation committed to helping people who have eye diseases, are blind or otherwise disabled in underprivileged regions of our world, irrespective of gender, origin, ethnicity or religion.

Our work focuses on the following activities:

preventing blindness and restoring eyesight
rehabilitating blind persons and people with other disabilities,
preventing and treating disabling conditions and
promoting the rights of persons with disabilities.

Our principles are:

to empower people to help themselves
to create sustainable structures
to train local specialists
to integrate disabled people in all spheres of life
to advocate for the rights of people with disabilities

LIGHT FOR THE WORLD works together with other NGDOs, disabled people's organisations, churches, governmental institutions as well as international organisations such as the World Health Organisation.
In the area of prevention of blindness LIGHT FOR THE WORLD contributes to VISION 2020, a global initiative to eliminate avoidable blindness by the year 2020.

LIGHT FOR THE WORLD - Christoffel Development Cooperation is an independent charitable organisation, founded on 15 November 1988, that cooperates with sister organisations in Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, Great Britain, the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. LIGHT FOR THE WORLD - Christoffel Development Cooperation is a member of the Austrian networks IÖGV and of the Globaleverantwortung .
As regards the continuance of E.J. Christoffel's work LIGHT FOR THE WORLD is committed to the Christian values of charity and solidarity as well as to the Human Rights.
In addition to the Austrian organisation LIGHT FOR THE WORLD, on August 29 2007 the sister organisation SVĚTLO PRO SVĚT - LIGHT FOR THE WORLD was founded in the Czech Republic.

Transparency and efficient use of resources

For years, LIGHT FOR THE WORLD has submitted its annual financial report to the external auditors Hübner & Hübner, 1120 Vienna, for a review of the use of funds entrusted to us. Once again, we received an unqualified confirmation and approval for the past year.
Moreover, LIGHT FOR THE WORLD – Christoffel Development Cooperation was again awarded the Austrian Seal of Quality for Donations.
The award shows that LIGHT FOR THE WORLD fulfills objective and verifiable standards in fundraising and administering all donations. Transparency is very important to us. We are committed to dealing economically and efficiently with the means entrusted to us so that our work can have a sustainable effect on blind and otherwise disabled people in the developing world.
